Jay Emery explains the ingredients necessary for entrepreneurial success…

I’ve often sat and pondered my life’s journey, the choices I’ve made and how different things could have been.

Don’t get me wrong I’ve had an amazing journey and all said and done there is not much I would have changed.

But it could have been a lot easier than it has been if I had known what I know now.

To quote the words of Carole King, “my life has been a tapestry of rich and golden hew”… And those that know me also know that there is not much that I have not done or tried.

I don’t say this to boast, but rather to point out that I don’t see failure in the same way as most of the people I meet.

My friends often joke amongst themselves with comments like how’s things at the “learning curve academy, Jay”.

“Studying hard”, is a standard reply.

Do I want more? Hell yeah! But not in the same way as most people would expect.

I would like to be able to give more, help more and influence more.

And while more material wealth would seem important to my family, as I get older, I realise I have never wanted big houses or fast cars. These material things, although signs of success are not my key drivers or motivators

I see financial freedom as the freedom of choice, to be able to choose the experiences, gain the knowledge and find the free time. And believe it or not that costs money.

So, if running a business is your thing, as it is mine, and helping people find a level of financial freedom, your driver, where do you go to get help and guidance, to grow and fulfil your personal life’s purpose?

I guess the secrets in the sauce – the mix of people that you choose to spend time with exploring the opportunities before you.

You could, as most of the population do, go to the pub… and get the same results as most of the population, or you could be part of a Mastermind. A group of people with similar goals and ambitions, some of whom have already been where you are going.

I have travelled around the world to be in one Mastermind or another and with every step with every change I’ve had something to learn and my business has grown.

But greater than that has been my own personal growth.

Within the confines of a Mastermind you can celebrate success and learn from the mistakes of others and by observation of the group you can grow stronger, more resilient, and you have an opportunity to draw on the combined knowledge of the group.

Building a business is as much about building relationships as it is about selling your thing.

Building the right relationships with the right people will make selling your thing easier.

Business owners are a minority, successful business owners a rarity.

Passionate, savvy and successful business owners are a secret sauce, mixed together in a Mastermind.

If I could have changed one thing earlier in life, it would have been to be part of and seek out a Mastermind group earlier.

But why Renegades in particular? What was different when I didn’t know and nor had I met the other members? So, why did I join this particular Mastermind?

My friends often joke amongst themselves with comments like, “how’s things at the learning curve academy, Jay?”

Simply, I’ve been in other Masterminds, but Renegades has the potential to be something bigger than just a Mastermind of 9.

My true passion is in helping others, so as this process spins out into helping more people reach their potential and, in turn, I can be rewarded for that help, then joining the group fulfils elements of my life’s purpose.

No brainer really!
