This is a fantastic little book that should be high on the list of every business owner’s reading list.

John Warrillow is a seasoned entrepreneur himself having built and sold 4 businesses and endeavours in this book to pass on his lessons learned.

Sometimes, self-development and business books can be hard going to read but this book is a breeze.

As opposed to the regular, tried and tested format of an expert simply giving you lessons this book is set on as a story.

The story is of an imaginary business owner names Alex Stapleton who wants to sell his business. Alex has a successful advertising agency and has gained a loyal following of customers. But Alex has a problem, because he is the most experienced person in the business and in his field, he does most of the selling and all his customers want Alex, nobody else will do.

It’s about building a business that works without the business owner …
and in turn that ensures the business is sellable in the first place

Alex finds himself stretched to breaking point, running from one re to the next he hits a plateau and decides he wants to sell. At this point he meets an old friend Ted, who has been very successful and the story unfolds as Ted teaches Alex how to turn his business into a sellable company.

My first observation is that many of us do not want to sell our business but that isn’t the point of this book.

The fact is that many of us couldn’t sell anyway and the idea is that you could if you wanted to.

This book delves into a great subject about building a business that works without the business owner and in turn that ensures the business is sellable in the first place.

As it’s in a story, it a very easy read and at a little over 140 pages it seems over before you start. All the more reason to read it more than once and there are some truly great nuggets of advice regardless of how big, small or what sector you are in.

Enjoy!
